study<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-system-font-font-family has-large-font-size wp-elements-d6662344bba416fe36e4ab826176532e\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:300\">The goal of this pilot observational study is to determine if specific microbiome signatures can predict therapeutic responses in adult patients with Crohn&#8217;s disease (CD), a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), living in British Columbia, Canada.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-system-font-font-family has-large-font-size wp-elements-fdd9755ed28bc5854db7eac37d578377\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:300\"><strong>The main questions this study seeks to answer are:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:300\" class=\"wp-block-list has-text-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-system-font-font-family has-large-font-size wp-elements-589c7f80d317d29d90a42506cf63ce3d\">\n<li>How do microbiome profiles differ between active and quiescent CD and non-IBD controls?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can microbiome signatures across different sample types (fecal, intestinal washings, and intestinal epithelial biopsies) predict response to therapy in CD?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-system-font-font-family has-large-font-size wp-elements-eb50f8f8e7be030cb9d75df2d89ab498\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:300\">Researchers will compare microbiome signatures in patients with active and inactive CD as well as non-IBD controls to see if there are any microbial signatures that predict response to therapy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-tertiary-background-color has-background has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--large);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--large)\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is involved<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-system-font-font-family has-large-font-size wp-elements-dd32aa3d99164b77014cc6a621f15267\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:300\"><strong>Control and IBD participants in Phase 1 will:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:300\" class=\"wp-block-list has-text-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-system-font-font-family has-large-font-size wp-elements-bfd12bda8d93afd0775197ee5aa22116\">\n<li>Provide stool samples both before the colonoscopy and two weeks after (using an at-home collection kit provided by the research team).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agree to have several samples collected during the colonoscopy for research purposes (blood, biopsies, intestinal wash).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete an online questionnaire about their gastrointestinal symptoms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Record their diet using a provided food diary template for three days prior to the second stool collection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-system-font-font-family has-large-font-size wp-elements-d724bdd6f56ac0f1bc18d771743a225a\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:300\"><strong>IBD patients enrolled in Phase 2 will:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:300\" class=\"wp-block-list has-text-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-system-font-font-family has-large-font-size wp-elements-43ea5183ed03933dd27fc1bffeddf723\">\n<li>Provide stool samples at 4, 8, and 12 months after the initial colonoscopy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Record their diet using the provided food diary template for three days before each stool collection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Answer questions related to gastrointestinal symptoms at 4, 8, and 12 months post-colonoscopy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If another colonoscopy is scheduled as part of care, agree to have several samples collected during the procedure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide has-global-padding
